So that's my opinion of my personal best and worst episodes of William Hartnell's era. I've already started Patrick Troughton's (The 2nd Doctor's) era. Up next, The Ice Warriors! Full report of this era when I've finished, hopefully next week (because many of them don't exist anymore!)
Until then,
See Ya
So I have finally completed every episode of the 1st Doctor. It took 2 weeks, but was overall enjoyable. I just thought I would note down a few of my favourites, and some that were...well...awful! So, to begin, the 1st episode, an Unearthly Child. I thought this was pretty good, especially parts 1&2, however it got a little tedious after this with lots of talking and little action (until the fight of course). With The Keys of Marinus, I was HIGHLY disappointed with the Voord. I expected more of them, but they only appear in parts 1&6. To make it worse, I thought the fact that they were silent made them creepy and more of a threat. This effect was ruined when they spoke in stupidly high pitched voices in part 6. But The Sensorites. WOW! This story is not one that is often praised, but I loved it. The action was throughout and had few slow parts. This is definitely my favourite first Doctor episode. The same goes for The War Machines, which was awesome, however I thought Dodo should have had a proper goodbye. These two stories have skyrocketed to my favourites. Despite having seen them, I still enjoy The Dalek Invasion of Earth and The Chase, two stories I love. The same cannot be said for The Rescue and The Romans. I...er...to put it plainly, I hated them. They dragged ON and ON. In The Rescue, I thought it was obvious who Koquillion was (but that may be the Sherlock fan inside of me!). As for The Web Planet...well, I acknowledge its existence. That's as much as I can say without going into a JTTCOTT style rant. And, I know this will be controversial to other fans, but I didn't really like The Tenth Planet either. It was ok, but just not...good. However having read the Target novelisation, perhaps I had too high expectations
