Now before we get started, I just want to say that, as I am a Ghostbusters cospalyer, this review will be really in depth and I will probably scrutinise the accuracy a little. I want to make this clear however that I love this, and it is my favourite Funko and so any complaints are purely from a mega-nerds point of view. Also, I feel my past reviews have lacked a bit as I was not critical and only looked at the good bits. Well that's going to change.
As per usual, the figure comes packaged in a window box. At the front we have the Funko Pop logo, the Ghostbusters 'No-Ghost' logo and the particular number of the figure (105). The back of the box shows off the other figures available in the Ghostbusters line and the sides feature more images of the figure. Like the other Funko figures, this is in the 3.75 scale and has only one point of articulation which is the head which does a 360. |
Ray is very detailed with the STANTZ name patch and the No-Ghost patch on his arm. He features a white pistol belt and belt gizmo, and is holding the Muon trap and Motorola MT500 Radio. He also has the Ecto-Goggle on his head. And the best part...The Proton Pack. This is fantastic and has a lot of detail for its size. The red cyclotron lights, Ion arm, shock mount and Clippard are all painted to stand out. The sculpting is incredible with small details such as the Booster and Power Cell all present. The Neutrino wand is sculpted into the side and features the same amazing detail. |
This is where it gets nit picky. While it features an insane amount of detail, its not all accurate. To be honest, the few inaccuracies are mainly down to paint. Most obviously, the pack is black, where as the this one is silver. I'm not sure if this was just to make It more visible or was simply an oversight. The ribbon cable is also missing. The Ion arm is silver, not copper-ish and the power pack does not have the blue strip. I feel if wires were painted on, it would be much more colourful and exciting to look at. The Ecto-Goggles are painted black rather than green as in the original 1984 movie, but they may have used the colour of the 2009 Video game where they are darker. My major gripe is the trap. While well sculpted, the yellow and black hazard lines are missing from it which would have looked much better. |
However, they are just small problems, and I am astounded by the amount of detail present anyway. Don't get me wrong, I love it and Ray is my favourite of the Ghostbusters, but I just felt that more paint could have helped. Aside from the trap, I don't feel it was necessary, I'm just a little disappointed at the lack of hazard tape on the trap. I also feel a yellow leg hose would have really set the figure off as this was also missing. But there's only so much you can do on a 3.75inch figure and I probably couldn't do it better myself!
Overall, I highly recommend this figure, and as I said earlier, it is my favourite Funko in my collection. I just felt I need to be more critical in my reviews, otherwise it didn't make a good review if I only looked at pros. So I hoped you enjoyed this review and stay tuned for a review of Funko Robocop later in the week.
Until then,
See Ya!
