The Doctor got a new costume this episode, which looked very similar to that worn by the 1st. I loved this costume, and think he should wear it more often. We see his ruthless side again as he uses the victims to find out more about the Mummy. However, his heroic side is more prominent this episode when he uses Maisie’s memories to see the Mummy itself. And of course, there is the scene when the Doctor offers Jelly-Babies…in a cigarette case. That was brilliant. |
We weren’t sure if Clara was going to appear after her breakdown in Kill the Moon, but she’s back. Hoozah! This time with new hair! But why was she here? I know it was about one more adventure, and not ending on a slammed door, but isn’t that how most things end? And she should have known that it would entice her back in. It was apparent she really enjoys this, and wanted there to be a mysterious reason behind it all. |
Frank Skinner was here in a guest role as mechanic Perkins. He was great and very entertaining. The fact he had started to investigate himself was a great quality. It’s a shame he didn’t take the Doctor up on his offer of joining the TARDIS as a mechanic. I would have loved him popping up every now and then fixing stuff. The singer Foxes also made a guest appearance…for about 10 seconds. She sang a jazz version of Queen’s ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’, which was very relevant to the Doctor. |
The Mummy, or the Foretold as it was called looked amazing. The prosthetics were brilliant and it actually looked quite scary. It turned out it was a Soldier on the end. Because soldiers and the Doctor’s attitude on them haven’t been mentioned much this series (groan…)! It was also revealed that it actually had a technological reason behind it. |
It turned out that this was all purposefully done by the evil…Gus!!!! This explains all the scientists that…didn’t really do much as it was mostly the Doctor. However, this was better that saying it was all random. Gus was supposedly trying to attract the Doctor for a while, which provided a reason for the call at the end of Series 5’s ‘The Big Bang’. |
Overall, I loved this episode. It was fantastic. In fact, I would say its the best of the series so far. Anyway, next time, the TARDIS has gotten smaller on the outside...
Until then,
See Ya!
