This episode saw the TARDIS crew cast as bank robbers, with no idea why. The truth is that the Doctor planned everything as the mysterious Architect. The crew are joined by Psi and Saibra (more on them later). But this episode just feels like a filler episode, with not much happening and feeling quite dull until the end. |
It seems that Clara might be leaving, like the rumours say, as she would rather go on a date than travel in the TARDIS. Psi notes Clara has been with the Doctor for a while, as she has many excuses for the Doctor's behaviour. The conversations with Danny are still really awkward however, and is staring to get annoying. |
So the Doctor and Clara are joined by Psi, a guy who's part computer and Saibra, who can make herself look like others. They fill in the generic bank robbing roles of the tech genius and the disguise master. But frankly I found them dull and boring. Their backstories felt really forced, with no real emotion, and I just didn't care for them. When they died, I just didn't feel it as any kind of blow, and they came back anyway! Because the thing that killed them that really looked like it teleported them, actually teleported them. Shocker! |
The villains in this episode was guest star Keeley Hawes and the Teller. I think Hawes was used well here as she essentially got 3 roles as Ms Delphox, Ms Karabraxos and the old Karabraxos. The Teller looked fantastic, and had a really great ability of detecting guilt. But it was really dark when it caused peoples heads to deflate. What made it creepier was that they kept them as reminders. However, how come it let Clara go? Twice? It made sense Karabraxos rang the Doctor as i's clear she cared for him, and so would regret the events. |
There were some things I really liked about this episode, such as the Mug shots of Sensorites, Slitheen, John Hart...and Absolm Daak from the comics. I also loved the vortex to washing machine opening. I just thought that was clever. However, there were things I didn't like, such as why did the most secure bank in the universe have no cameras? And if the group knew they were stealing, they'd have guilt, and wouldn't need to forget as they were already guilty! How did the Doctor get in in the first place? And the ending was similar to Hide! |
Now I hate JTTCOTT. Hate it. A lot. So I wasn't impressed that there were similar traits in this episode. I mean, many scenes were set in the same corridor, with different coloured lighting! Really? And there was Psi and Saibra who I felt nothing for and just felt as if they were here to further the plot like the VanBaleen brothers. It wasn't as awful as JTTCOTT. Because nothing ever can be. And the time traveling elements (which I assume were Moffat's contributions) helped a little. |
Overall, I felt the episode was...Meh. It was ok,. It had A LOT of flaws, but wasn't the worst episode ever (that would be JTTCOTT). So next episode, the Doctor joins Coal Hill school in The Caretaker.
So until then,
See Ya
