A couple of weeks ago, I saw the new Robocop remake and its really good. Very good in fact.... But I wouldn't call it a 'Remake'. Here I will be going through some of the most major differences in 2 parts. Here is the first:
Now, Omnicorp's robots are already out, including ED-209, doing our dirty work. This means there is no '20 seconds to comply' demonstration scene. However these robots are not wanted in the USA, due to them having no emotions. Omnicorp CEO wants a cyborg...that cyborg is Robocop (how unexpected)
Murphy, is to become this Cyborg. But first he is critically injured. In the original film, this happens by him being brutally, and VERY violently shot. This is replaced in this newer film by him being blown up by a bomb beneath his car, probably because all that can be seen is fire and not the graphic violence as there is in the original. With consent from his wife, he the becomes Robocop. This is another difference as I don't remember Murphy's Wife and Kid being a major plot point in the original, but this new movie is pretty much built up around them. Anyway, Murphy rejects his appearance and runs off. after being shut down and returned he is told to stay strong for his wife and kid. After being trained and shooting a load of robots and being at a press conference, he is told he will never be as good as a normal robot. This is then followed by his emotions being suppressed.
This dramatically reduces Detroit's crime levels, but Murphy cannot go and see his wife and kids. After checking CCTV footage, he finds out who tried to kill him. After finding out that his son had been traumatised by the accident, he sets of to find the killer for revenge...
As you can see, this review is taking up a lot of space and so it is best this is in two segments. Hope you're enjoying this so far, and stay tuned for Part 2, coming soon.
